It's time for your monthly dose of Pearl updates!

Pearl is prescribing you a new Prescriptions tab, new NHS changes and much more!

Pearl Prescriptions Creator

We are introducing a new feature that will allow the recording/auditing of prescriptions.

Staff Setup

To begin using Prescriptions, you will need to ensure your staff have a valid GDC number and are set as a prescriber. To do this, go to:

  • Settings > Staff Setup > Edit Staff

Justifications Setup

Next, you may need to add additional prescription items and Justifications. These can all be amended under the new settings menu:

  • Settings > Prescriptions Setup
    • Prescription Items: require a code, details and the type of item.
    • Justification Types
    • Symptom Types

You can now add a new prescription from the Charting via the tab on the right-hand side next to Clinical notes, BPE, Medical Warnings and Triage.

Prescriptions are locked to their default details and recommended dosages but may be unlocked and amended if needed.

Finally, a paper Prescription can be printed. This can be either to a card printer or a A4 paper sheet.

We hope to have the NHS FP10-D version available soon

Future Bills Pending Symbol

The £ symbol now can show Orange if the bill is after today. This is useful for patients who might be on a payment plan and have nothing to pay for today.

NHS Reform Changes

The NHS changes are still going ahead on the 1st of October.

Please note this update does not include the additional band 2 (5 or 7 UDA) changes which the NHS have delayed until November this year.

One of the changes relates to the promoting of skills mix in the dental practice. This means you can include a DCP GDC Number for the DCP who may have carried out all or some of a course of treatment and an indicator to show in what capacity they operated.

To improve patient outcomes NHS England now require the highest sextant BPE score in the mouth. This is mandatory on all adult banded claims (Bands 1, 2 and 3)

If you are recording BPE's within Pearl this will be imported automatically, otherwise at least one of the BPE sextants will need to be completed.

Molar and Non-Molar Endodontics have been split into separate boxes, which will be calculated automatically by Pearl from the Charting.

There is also a new code which is required to record the total number of Untreated Decayed Teeth at the clinical examination

SMS Report Shows Delivery Status

The SMS Report from a Patients mobile will now include an SMS delivery status, identifying if the message has been delivered successfully, sent but not yet received or failed.

  • Sent SMS is normally due to the recipient's phone not having signal
  • Failed SMS could be an invalid mobile number, or the mobile service provider did not accept the message.
